During the working visit to London, the Ukrainian delegation, led by Deputy Minister for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine Andrii Kashuba, took part in a number of events of the
International Maritime Organization - IMO and held bilateral meetings with the IMO leadership and delegations of member states.
The main topics of the negotiations were shipping safety, countering the “shadow fleet” of the Russian Federation and technical assistance to Ukraine.
Thus, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) officially launched the “IMO for Ukraine” project. The initiative provides for practical support in the field of shipping safety, development of institutional capacity, as well as restoration and modernization of maritime infrastructure.
One of the key components of the project will be a comprehensive assessment of the damage caused to the maritime sector of Ukraine as a result of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation, as well as the formation of a list of priority needs. This includes, in particular, recording damage to port infrastructure, shipping safety systems and the marine environment. This will allow for international confirmation of the fact that Russia has caused damage in the maritime sector and will create a basis for further technical and financial support to Ukraine.
The project also provides support for Ukraine in implementing the Maritime Single Window (MSW) - a single maritime window for electronic exchange of information between vessels and state authorities during the entry, stay and exit of vessels into ports. Connecting to the MSW will allow digitalizing port and administrative procedures, increasing their transparency and efficiency, and creating a modern system for responding to security and environmental threats in accordance with international standards.
