Ukraine and the IMO

Ukraine is a Member of the International Maritime Organization since 1994.

The participation of Ukraine at the IMO is provided by three ministries – Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine, State Service for Maritime and River Transport of Ukraine, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.

Ukraine called upon IMO’s Member States not to recognize implementation by the Russian Federation of IMO conventions in the maritime areas adjacent to Crimea

Ukraine informed IMO about the unlawful activity of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping in Crimea

The EU, Canada, Georgia, Iceland and the United States called on Russia in the International Maritime Organization to comply promptly with the order of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea

Ukraine informed IMO about unlawful practices associated with certificates of competency and seafarers’ identity documents in Crimea

Ukraine expressed its protest to the Russian Federation at IMO in connection with the discriminatory inspections of vessels as well as the unauthorized construction of a bridge across the Kerch Strait
