Foreign Secretary welcomes new EU sanctions against facilitators of the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol
28 January 2020 17:24

The EU has sanctioned individuals for undermining Ukraine's sovereignty.

A further group of individuals responsible for the continued illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol will face sanctions thanks to a decision made at the EU General Affairs Council today.

The UK has been at the forefront of EU sanctions action against Russia since their illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol nearly 6 years ago and will continue to play a leading role in international sanctions policy after we leave the EU. The UK is also providing support to human rights defenders in Crimea so that NGOs can continue to highlight abuses on the peninsula, and seek redress for victims. We continue to stand in unwavering support of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said:

Today, the UK and our international partners have collectively sent a message to Russia that we do not and will not accept its illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol. We will impose serious costs through active maintenance of sanctions on those who seek to incorporate Crimea and Sevastopol into Russia.
