On June 5, #UK Foreign Office published its report on 2018 Human Rights and Democracy situation in the world.
The key messages of the FCO report regarding the human rights situation in #Ukraine’s territories temporarily occupied by #Russia:
➡️ Russia continues to commit human rights violations outside its borders, including in illegally annexed #Crimea and through support to separatists in eastern Ukraine.
➡️ Russia continues to violate the #MinskAgreements by supplying weapons and personnel to separatists and supporting the illegitimate elections in eastern Ukraine. @UN estimates that the Russian-backed conflict has resulted in thousands of deaths and 1.5 million internally displaced persons.
➡️ Ethnic minority groups, particularly Crimean Tatars, are being targeted by Russian authorities in the occupied Crimea. Russia continued to prevent the operation of the #Mejlis in violation of an order by the International Court of Justice.
➡️ The OHCHR @UNHumanRightsUkraine have reported numerous cases of human rights violations in detention centres located in the occupied areas of #Donbas and Crimea, including torture and sexual violence.
➡️ The UK Government has repeatedly called for the release of the illegally detained Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov and other Ukrainian political prisoners held by Russia. #FreeSentsov
➡️ The UK Government has supported a resolution the UN General Assembly resolution urging Russia to uphold its obligations under international law in Crimea and allow access to the peninsula for international human rights monitors.
