In order to inform the public about the flagrant violations of human rights by the Russian occupation administration in Crimea on May 20-21 E.Bekirova, the daughter of a political prisoner of the Kremlin, Edem Bekirov, together with O.Romantsova, Executive Director of the Center for Civil Liberties, a human rights organization held a visit to the UK.

During the visit, they had meetings at the UK Foreign Office, Amnesty International's headquarters and leading UK human rights activists. Grave violations of human rights of #Crimean #Tatars in the temporarily #occupied #Crimea & FSB-fabricated cases against her father were discussed.

E. Bekirova and O. Romantsova had a number of meetings in the UK Parliament, in particular with the Head of the Friendship Group with Ukraine John  Whittingdale. There was also a brief conversation with a member of the British delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, I.Liddel-Grainger and the well-known politician B.Johnson.

It was agreed with I.Liddel-Grainger to meet E.Beykirova in the nearest future in Strasbourg. J.Whittingdale assured that he would continue to raise issues of repression in the Crimea, and in particular against Edem Bikerov, within the framework of the OSCE PA and the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

On May 21 E.Bekirova and O.Romantsova also participated in the public event organized by the Embassy jointly with The Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain (AUGB) themed “the Crimea: 5 Years of Occupation”, during which the documentaries were screened (on the deportation of the Crimean Tatar people and the situation around the illegal detention of Edem Bekirov).
