On 18 January 2019, the delegation of Ukraine at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) drew the attention of the IMO Member States to the unlawful actions of the Russian Federation and the relevant implications for search and rescue operations in the maritime areas appertaining to the Crimean peninsula as an integral part of the territory of Ukraine.

Russia continues to violate international law endangering the safety of navigation in the Black Sea.

The representative of Ukraine called on the Russian Federation to take all measures to prevent internationally wrongful acts in Ukraine’s search and rescue region as well as to provide appropriate assurances and guarantees that they will not repeat it in the future.
