On 7 December 2018 at the session of the Maritime Safety Committee of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in London a document “Safety and security of navigation in the northern part of the Black Sea”, submitted by Ukraine, was considered. It was agreed to begin monitoring the situation with the safety and security of navigation in this part of the Black Sea.
The EU countries as well as Georgia, Canada and the United States have condemned the Russian Federation’s unlawful unilateral actions in the Black Sea and the Kerch Strait, which pose a threat to the safety and security of navigation.
Consequently, the IMO’s Maritime Safety Committee invited the Member States and interested parties to notify the Organization of any threats to the safety and security of navigation in the northern part of the Black Sea that, from now on, will receive special attention of the mentioned specialized agency of the United Nations.
