Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Ukraine to IMO Natalia Galibarenko presented to Secretary-General Kitack Lim the instruments of accesion of Ukraine to the International Convention on Salvage, 1989 and to the International Convention on the Control of Harmful Anti-Fouling Systems on Ships, 2001.
The International Convention on Salvage, 1989 is a principal international treaty governing the process of recovering a ship and its cargo after a shipwreck or other maritime casualty. Accession of Ukraine to the International Convention on Salvage, 1989 is aimed at deremining uniform international rules regarding salvage operations at sea that help to achieve the safety of navigation and to proteck the marine environment.
The International Convention on the Control of Harmful Anti-Fouling Systems on Ships, 2001 regulates application of anti-fouling systems on ships in order to reduce or eliminate adverse effects on the marine environment and human health caused by chemical compounds. A ratifying state agrees to enforce the prohibitions of the Convention on all ships flying its flag and on any ship that enters a port of the state,
