On 4-5 July 2016 Ambassador of Ukraine Natalia Galibarenko paid a visit to Scotland with an aim to foster closer ties with the region.
Importance of continuing support of Ukraine and maintaining economic sanctions in response to Russian aggression, regardless of the political situation in Great Britain after the referendum, were discussed during the meetings with Cabinet Secretary for Culture, Tourism and External Affairs Fiona Hyslop and Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament Ken Macintosh. Representatives of the Government and the Parliament expressed support and solidarity with Ukraine, and confirmed readiness to share their best practices in the area of decentralisation (devolution of powers). The parties also discussed prospects of a visit to Scotland by the Ukrainian parliamentary delegation focused on developing inter-parliamentary relations.
Ambassador also discussed economic and trade cooperation with the Scottish entrepreneurs and Chair of the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce Liz McAreavey.
Reviving sister-cities relations between Kyiv and Edinburgh was raised during a meeting with Lord Provost of Edinburgh the Rt Hon. Donald Wilson.
Ambassador also held a meeting with representatives of the Association of Ukrainians of Great Britain in Edinburgh.
