Born in 1814 in South Wales this talented, inventive and ambitious entrepreneur was invited to Ukraine to develop coal mining and metallurgy industry of a region. After a short period of time J.Hughes launched some enterprises including ironworks and railway. In 1869 he founded a small worker's settlement and named it Hughesovka. Now it is transformed in one of the principal industrial city of Ukraine - Donetsk.
The exhibition includes a collection of graphics and paintings of a famous Ukrainian artist Tatyana Ponomarenko-Laverash telling the story of the birth of Hughesovka (Donetsk).
